PALO VERDE NATIONAL PARK

National park located in the lower Tempisque River basin, in Guanacaste. It is one of Costa Rica’s most important wetland areas and a prime site for watching aquatic, migratory and resident birds. The park protects mangroves, marshes, dry forest, lagoons, rivers and a wide variety of wildlife.

This is an excellent birdwatching destination, especially during the dry season, when many species gather around the wetlands. Bring binoculars, water, sunscreen, insect repellent and comfortable shoes. For Tempisque River boat tours, it is best to coordinate with local operators.
