TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK

Tortuguero National Park is one of the most important protected areas in Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean region. It protects canals, lagoons, rivers, wetlands, tropical rainforest and sea turtle nesting beaches. It is famous for boat or kayak tours, wildlife watching and the green sea turtle nesting season.

Hours:
Daily: 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Ticket sales operate until 3:30 p.m., and tickets must be purchased online. 

Fee:
Canal Sector / Jaguar Trail: foreign adults US$16.95, foreign children US$5.65.
Cerro Tortuguero Sector: US$2.26.
Fees may vary by sector and visitor category; confirm through SINAC’s official system.

The best way to visit is with a local guide by boat or kayak. Bring insect repellent, a light rain jacket, quick-dry clothing, binoculars and a dry bag for your phone or camera. To see turtles, visitors must go with an authorized guide and follow nighttime observation rules.
