CHIRRIPÓ NATIONAL PARK

Cerro Chirripó is the highest point in Costa Rica, at 3,820 meters above sea level. It is part of Chirripó National Park and one of the country’s most important hiking destinations. The trail crosses montane forest, páramo, high-altitude valleys, lagoons and natural viewpoints. On clear days, both oceans can be seen from the summit.

Hours:
Chirripó National Park: daily, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Entry requires advance reservation through SINAC and coordination of concessioned services. 

Fee:
Costa Rican citizens and residents: ₡4,520 per day
Foreign visitors: US$21 per day
Lodging, meals and luggage transport are paid separately through the concessionaire.

This is not a casual hike. It requires good physical condition, advance booking, warm clothing, rain protection, hiking shoes and planning. Most visitors stay in San Gerardo de Rivas before starting the climb and use Crestones Base Lodge to complete the visit. Always confirm availability, weather and requirements before traveling.
