JACO'S ESTUARY

El Estero de Jacó is a natural area located at the northern end of Jacó Beach, where the river and ocean meet to form a small estuary. It is known for its coastal scenery, vegetation, birds and quieter atmosphere within one of the most active beach towns on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast. The Municipality of Garabito identifies the area as “Estero Jacó” in official canton mapping documents. 

What to find:
• Estuary at the northern end of Jacó
• River, beach and coastal vegetation scenery
• Birds and wildlife associated with wetland areas
• Good spot for walking and sunset views
• Quieter atmosphere than central Jacó Beach
• Close to hotels, restaurants and tourism services

CRMaps Tip:
A good scenic spot for walking, photos and seeing where the estuary meets the beach. Swimming inside the estuary is not recommended, as these areas may have currents, mud, wildlife and quick tidal changes. Best visited during the day, and visitors should check the tide before getting close to the mouth of the estuary.
