LAS BAULAS NATIONAL MARINE PARK

Protected area located in Tamarindo Bay, Guanacaste. It protects beaches, mangroves, wetlands and marine areas that are important for the conservation of the leatherback sea turtle, one of the largest sea turtles in the world. It is also a good place to see birds, crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas and mangrove ecosystems.

What to find:
• Protected beaches such as Playa Grande, Playa Langosta, Playa Ventanas and Playa Carbón
• Tamarindo Estuary mangrove and wetland
• Boat or kayak tours through the estuary
• Birdwatching and wildlife
• Sea turtle nesting areas
• Coastal scenery and tropical dry forest ecosystems

Hours:
Daily: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Night access to nesting areas may be restricted and regulated through authorized guides.

Costa Rican citizens and residents: ₡1,600
Foreign visitors: US$12

CRMaps Tip:
For the mangrove area, the best option is a guided boat or kayak tour, preferably timed with the tide. For the beaches, bring water, sunscreen and respect protected areas. Do not enter nesting sectors at night without an authorized guide.
